We are delighted to be partnering with Cottages Near Bath www.cottagesnearbath.co.uk to bring you a 4-day residential writing retreat. Set in the grounds of a stunning Grade 1 listed manor house near Bath, you will experience a unique combination of therapeutic and professional creative writing.
We are here to build your confidence and writing skills. We provide wrap-around care that includes welcome packs, pre-and post-retreat support, and aftercare. We embed therapeutic principles into each writing session, enabling you to experience a supportive atmosphere in which to experiment and explore your ideas. Through the work, we aim to help you find your voice and hone your professional skills.
Gaby and Kate have over 60 years of teaching experience between them. Gaby has published widely in a range of mediums, from fiction and non-fiction to theatre and TV scripts. Kate is an writer and qualified creative writing therapist specialising in neurodiversity.
A unique 4-day/3 night residential retreat combining creative resilience and writing craft. Wraparound care makes this retreat different: you will receive a welcome pack containing wellbeing and creative prompts, a diagnostic questionnaire, and post-retreat check-ins to keep the momentum going. You will spend the time immersed in a tailored programme of individual and group sessions designed to support you as an emerging writer, wherever you are on your journey.

Breakfast and 3xbuffet style lunches included. Dinner options (at extra cost) will range from local restaurants, self-catering as a group, and dining in Bath. Runs from 20/1/25- 23/1/25.
The retreat will include opportunities for peer, group, and tutor feedback on your writing. All designed to develop your own voice and style.

Gaby and Kate have over 60 years of educational experience between them - from University teaching to community learning.
Both Gaby and Kate have PhDs in literature and are published academics and authors in their own right.
In addition, Kate is a qualified Therapeutic Writing Practitioner (MSc with Distinction).
Both Gaby and Kate are trained in safeguarding, GDPR and all relevant topics to support throughout a course.
No, all types of writing will be supported in the sessions - from poetry, narrative, life writing, scriptwriting, and flash fiction. You don't have to be published - this allows you to explore your strengths and find your voice.
Each workshop will explore a different creative skill/vital element of writing. In addition, each session will embed therapeutic activities designed to build resilience and build flow for ideas.
You will always be encouraged to write in response to prompts and guided activities.
You can choose to share your words or keep them private.
There are group and 1-2-1 sessions.
Yes, absolutely! Kate is both a neurodiversity specialist and neurodivergent. All activities will be built on the principles of inclusion. In order to support you, we use the diagnostic information you fill in before the course begins. This will be treated in confidence and allows us to tailor the retreat to your needs.
Our retreat is based in the largest of 3 cottages (1x4 bed, 2x 2bed). Each person will have their own private room and access to self-catering facilities & outdoor spaces. Please look at the www.cottagesnearbath.co.uk to see a virtual tour of this beautiful Grade 1 listed site.
A welcome pack containing a curated set of wellbeing materials, stationery, retreat schedule, and creative prompts to get you started will be sent upon receipt of the £100 deposit.
The remaining balance of £895 is due by 10/1/25. Using Paypal will enable you to spread the cost.
