I am a very proud hack.

My freelance career has been an adventure in saying ‘Yes’ to everything!

So, I have written and edited books under my own name, under a penname, and for other people. I have worked for clients from all around the world on different projects, including writing copy for car and motorcycle companies. I worked on poetry for CBeebies and I have written many scripts for YouTube channels on every imaginable topic. Don’t believe me? I give you: ‘The Science of the Free-kick’. 

You name it, I will write it.

My favourite job was writing scripts for children’s theatre, puppetry, and musical shows. In that capacity you learn very quickly what works and what doesn’t work for your audience, because they get up and walk out if it’s not fun. 

I was nominated for the Ursula Le Guin Award for Fiction in 2024 for my novel The Ghostwriters, a near-future dystopian story. So, there’s that, too.

When it comes to the nuts-and-bolts of writing I am your go-to tutor. There’s nothing I don’t know about structure, plotting, and genre. Don’t think you could write a successful, popular romance or thriller? I’m here to tell you that it’s more than possible, and formulae can be fun!
